Support Generative Somatics To Do Visionary Social Justice Work

generative somatics (gs) has powerfully transformed my life, and I'm committed to helping their work grow in our communities. As a woman of color leader focused on educational equity for students of color, the practices I've learned through gs have made my political vision clearer, my spirit stronger, and my ideas more creative. I've witnessed similar transformative journeys for other close friends in the work as well- from fields as varied as union organizers, therapists, and farmers.

generative somatics (gs) makes a critical contribution to social and environmental justice movements by providing a pragmatic and actionable approach to embodied transformation on an individual, organizational, and movement level. gs programs focus on healing from the impacts of trauma and oppression, and developing embodied leadership skills that are needed to build transformative social movements.

As a child in a politicized family, I grew up hearing my elders wrestle with question of self and collective care in social justice movements, and grew to understand the heartbreak that comes when our movement work collapses because of unhealed trauma and lateral violence. My participation in gs was the first time I experienced a way of being that offered a powerfully centered response to these questions of sustainability and healing. As I continue to apply what I've learned through gs, I believe I am mending a rupture in my inherited lineages of resistance, and returning more deeply to my ancestors' practices of embodied mindfulness and deeply intentional action.

Over the last eight years, thousands of organizers and movement leaders besides myself have been exposed to gs programs. We know that what gs offers resonates, because gs has the best possible problem -- there is currently three times the interest (course applications and partner requests) than gs has the capacity to meet. Your donation will go a long way in helping gs' work reach even more folks.

Contributions to gs from individual donors will support two main areas

1. Donations support gs to make our programs affordable and accessible to poor and working class communities and communities of color; and to choose movement partnerships with organizations and communities based on alignment with our political values and strategy, not on financial access and capacity.
2. Donations support gs to build a strong and sustainable organization that will be able to meet the expressed need for our work in social and environmental justice movements

In 2016, I joined a team of dedicated gs fundraisers committed to raising a team total of $100,000 to support the incredible work of generative somatics. I've also become a monthly donor to gs and am giving a total of $360 this year- more than I've ever donated to any organization previously- I really believe in this work! Please join me.
